Before all that Gushu Puerh hype, nobody gave much interest to old pu-erh tea trees in Mengsong. In 2008, the boss of Ruironghao decided to make a series of huge 1kilogram tea cakes from maocha picked from a grove of old trees up to a thousand years old. These maochas from such trees were relatively inexpensive then, and unfortunately Ruironghao did not manage to repeat this feat or product due to raw material price increment by tens of folds as the market heated up.
We have here a delightful seal-stored 2008 Mengsong Gushu tea cake that is aging very well, the vanillic hints are lively, the brew is thick, minerallic, and sweet. Many tasters had reflected an ethereal floral note left in the mouth by this tea. We pried the whole cake loose and now have it offered as 25 gram packs. A nice idea as to what to expect for a clean sealed stored Gushu cake of good material.
