making Al-ghaliyah is an annual affair to KZ. a very personal journey, a challenge to artistry and formulation, and when it is decidedly ready, it needs to trigger a feeling of “preciousness” to KZ, that it might even make him feel reluctant to give it up.
this year’s Al-ghaliyah’s aim and inspiration, seeks to give the user a lush airiness of great height, this is different from the heavier mid toned alghaliyah of 2017 and 2016 (more misk weight), and the scent of it is seamless between the different flowers.. the different notes.. and the specially chosen Kalakassi Oud, together with the mix of mysore and tanzanian sandalwoods.
someone asked me.. why is this year’s al-ghaliyah not as expensive as last year’s?
to be really honest.. i dont know why either. because i dont know how to put a price on something like this i have created, and in the crafting of it over the past year, i lost count of the prices of different things that had gone in, i’ve lost count on the man hours.. the time, efforts.. in sourcing ingredients or producing/texting prototypes, and the gratification comes from the finished product when i’m finally satisfied with it some how “pays” for it, i feel all the efforts are worth it.
so in 2018, i’ve decided, i would just price it in a range that i think would be within reach of many, and sincerely as a wish for many of my friends, a blessed Ramadan.
from this year’s Al-ghaliyah sale, i’ve also decided that 15% of the proceeds will go towards charitable causes. towards the end of the ramadan month i’ll be converting the 15% proceed into supermarket vouchers to be mailed gifted to the less fortunate in Singapore for them to buy foods/treats for their families in celebration of Eid al-Fitr.
