I’ve been squeezing some of my taiwanese sources for vietnamese/nhatrang old stock woods that they had stockpiled. One of them had some really nice stock but absolutely refused to sell any of the raw wood to me. He insists that I have to take his incense that he makes from these woods only, that is how he earns sufficient margin by supplying a finished product with his labour costs included.
I like his Vietnamese stick a lot, if you are familiar with those baieido woods that had made it to the west, this stick has mild hints of spiciness like that of Hakusui, and the sweet tones of Ogurayama and the scent constantly interweaves between this two profiles!
Extruded by my friend in Taiwan, using 1.2mm pore size, upon drying the sticks shrank to about 1-1.1mm diameter 🙂 so in five grams you get something like 50 sticks approximately. High quality natural binders used, the ash of this stick does not curl at all.
As a trial to long term collaboration I’m offering his sticks here, I find the price rather reasonable in light of raw wood prices these days.. and the price will remain reasonable as long as KZ doesnt become greedy and decide to take a huge margin, or whether this taiwanese friend can continue to give the same quality and a long term stable price.
